Album Review – Putrevore / Unending Rotting Cycle (2025)

This unrelenting Spanish and Swedish two-headed beast returns from the grave with an album of impossible horrors, the most relentless, ravenous and remorseless example of their Death Metal war machine.

Blasting dark, putrid old school Death Metal for fans of Incantation, Immolation, Avulsed, and Grisly, among others, since their inception back in 2004 under the moniker Deadbreath, the unrelenting Spanish-Swedish Death Metal creature Putrevore returns from the grave with their fifth full-length offering, entitled Unending Rotting Cycle, the follow-up to their 2021 album Miasmal Monstrosity. Mixed and mastered by Avulsed’s guitarist Alejandro Lobo at Acordica Studios, and displaying a cadaverous artwork by Lucretia Morti, the newborn spawn by the iconic duo formed of Dave Rotten (Avulsed, Christ Denied, Decrapted, Holycide, Rotten, Weaponry, Yskelgroth) on vocals, and Rogga Johansson (Paganizer, Ribspreader, Furnace, Leper Colony, Revolting) on the guitars and bass, and featuring the cataclysmic drumming of regular Rogga Johansson co-conspirator Thomas Ohlsson (Blackscape, War Magic), continues to pay tribute to the hardest, heaviest and most brutal of the Death Metal pioneers of the late 80’s and early 90’s. In other words, Unending Rotting Cycle is an album of impossible horrors, the most relentless, ravenous and remorseless example of the duo’s Death Metal war machine.

They waste absolutely no time and kick off their onrush of sheer brutality with No Mourning the Grace, a ruthless Death Metal attack led by Dave’s demented deep guttural, whereas Thomas kicks off the just as demonic Morbid Procession, supported by Rogga’s relentless riffs and bass lines. In other words, it can’t get any more Death Metal than this. Rogga’s visceral axe keeps spreading violence and hatred in Subterranean Paths to the Temples, a mid-tempo, headbanging feast of pure death tailored for fans of the most primeval form of the genre; and get ready to be pulverized like a putrid insect to the sound of Beneath These Graves, where Thomas once again shows no mercy for any living creature behind his drums.

The trio continues to infest the air with their putrid Death Metal stench in Mortal Ways of the Flesh, another display of sheer savagery where Dave sounds like a creature form the underworld on vocals. Then we face the demonic title-track Unending Rotting Cycle, blasting our ears with their blend of undisputed Death Metal aggression led by Rogga’s metallic riffage, and there’s no sign of the band slowing down at all, as we’re treated to more of their inhumane sounds in They Worship Disarray, excellent for some wild headbanging. Rogga’s bass will hammer your cranial skulls in Cult of the Tentacle, offering the perfect opportunity for having lots of fun inside the circle pit, whereas lastly the trio will darken the skies one final time with The Cradle Replaced by the Grave, a crushing Death Metal beast for admirers of the music by old school legends of the style.

Bleak, black and bestial, Putrevore remain the undead embodiment of an old phrase from the age that inspired them – some music was meant to stay underground, and that’s exactly the feeling when you listen to the ruthless, savage Unending Rotting Cycle. Album Review – Unbounded Terror / Something Is Rotten In Humanity (2025)

One of the very first Spanish Death Metal bands returns with a new and absolutely pulverizing album, proving there’s definitely something rotten in humanity.

One of the very first Spanish Death Metal bands, formed in the early 90’s from the ashes of Toxic Waste, Mallorca’s own entity Unbounded Terror is ready to unleash upon us all their fourth full-length offering, entitled Something Is Rotten In Humanity. Produced and recorded by the band’s own Vicente J Payá (Golgotha, Sons Of Cult) and mixed and mastered by Davide Billia (Avulsed, Holycide, Posthuman Abomination) at Mk2 Recording Studio, the new album by Andrew Espinosa on vocals and bass, and Ancor Ramírez and Vicente J Payá on the guitars, plus guests Davide Billia on drums and Alejandro Lobo on keyboards, sounds absolutely devastating, exactly how grim, rotten Death Metal should sound, and its ghastly demeanor is completed by the artwork of Juanjo Castellano (Furnace, Vomitory, Ribspreader), which captures that putrid spirit perfectly, being therefore highly recommended for fans of Paganizer, Carnation, Obituary, and Death, among several others.

The opener Fear of Dying sounds utterly brutal, heavy and evil from the very first second, with Andrew providing his welcome card by roaring deeply in the name of Death Metal accompanied by the massive beats by Davide, whereas Destiny of Evil is a short and sweet display of the band’s Death Metal savagery, with Ancor and Vicente hammering their stringed axes nonstop. They continue to deliver pure, unfiltered Death Metal in the also heavy and bludgeoning Demons in Your Mind, with Andrew barking nonstop while also firing low-tuned, rumbling bass jabs; and the band shows no mercy for our cranial skulls in Reviving, offering more of their rabid, deep growls, sick guitar lines and unrelenting drums.

The second half of the album begins in full force with Inside Death, where Davide smashes his drums with tons of fury and dexterity, resulting in pure, no shenanigans Death Metal for admirers of the genre. The band then enhances their animosity and heaviness considerably in The Disappointment, punching us hard in the face with their brutal and visceral sounds, followed by Divine Virtue, which sounds and feels a bit generic if compared to the rest of the album, although still showcasing the band’s characteristic Death Metal sonority. Ancor and Vicente extract sharp, piercing riffs from their axes in Believing Again, a ruthless display of classic Death Metal made in Spain spiced up by an ass-kicking guitar solo; and The Evil Cause offers us all one final onrush of deadly sounds by Unbounded Terror, with Davide dictating the song’s headbanging pace with his pulverizing drums.

In Something Is Rotten In Humanity, Unbounded Terror welcome us putrid humans to the world we have created, hewn from the raw substance of our greed and perversion, our endless fascination with cruelty and consumption, and you can experience all that in the form of their old school Death Metal music by purchasing a copy of the album from Xtreem Music’s BandCamp or webstore. Album Review – Avulsed / Phoenix Cryptobiosis (2025)

Spain’s own Death Metal veterans return in full force with a pulverizing new album, raising their violence to another level, sounding as brutal, heavy, intense and catchy as always.

With the new line-up in exhilarating form and a final touch of gore soaked magic applied by the mixing of Alejandro Lobo at Acórdica Studios, the mastering of Davide Billia at MK2 Studio, and a venomous artwork by Ukrainian illustrator Daemorph, the pulverizing Phoenix Cryptobiosis represents Madrid, Spain-based Death Metal veterans Avulsed at the peak of their form. Currently formed of the iconic frontman Dave Rotten, guitarists Victor Dws and Alejandro Lobo, bassist Alex Nihil and drummer Santiago Arroyo “GoG”, Avulsed are on absolute fire in their eighth studio album and the follow-up to their 2013 opus Ritual Zombi, raising their violence to another level, sounding as brutal, heavy, intense and catchy as always, turning the album into a pure delight for fans of Demigod, Carcass, Bolt Thrower and Cannibal Corpse, among others, with each track having a wealth of haunted vaults to explore (and you’ll just want the bloodshed to keep on coming).

Limbs Regeneration is evil, haunting and embracing form the very first second, an extended intro that will decimate your blackened minds before we face Lacerate to Dominate with its poetic yet caustic lyrics barked by Dave (“In the realm of shattered dreams / Where agony reigns supreme / Razor’s edge a bloodied gleam / Lacerate to crush the dream”) amidst a brutal Death Metal atmosphere. It’s time to open up the circle pit and begin the slamming feast with Blood Monolith, with Victor and Alejandro firing classic Death Metal riffs while Santiago hammers his drums nonstop, and they need less than three minutes to smash us like disgusting insects in Unrotted, followed by the also pulverizing Guts of the Gore Gods, with Santiago and Alex hammering their rumbling drums and bass, respectively, in the name of old school Death Metal. After such an overdose of violence, the title-track Phoenix Cryptobiosis brings to our avid ears that sinister, sluggish and gory version of Death Metal we all learned to love so much, and the final result is truly infernal.

Santiago then sets the pace with his classic beats in the fast and furious extravaganza titled Devotion for Putrefaction, with Dave once again melting our faces with his deep guttural roars, followed by Neverborn Monstrosity, five minutes of pure Death Metal showcasing the band’s passion for the extreme and an intense, bold atmosphere, with the riffage by Victor and Alejandro exhaling rage. They keep the momentum going with Dismembered, another savage display of Death Metal made in Spain where Dave sounds possessed on vocals; and Bio-Cadaver, carrying a charming name for an overdose of brutality, heaviness and gore blasted by Dave and his henchmen. Last but not least, Santiago brings an extra dosage of rage and insanity to their music in Wandering Putrid Souls, inviting us all to slam into the pit one final time together with those beyond talented servants of the extreme.

In a nutshell, Phoenix Cryptobiosis is everything you could desire from an unwavering, undiluted Death Metal album in this age of fractured loyalties and pandering to the thin-blooded masses, bringing forward a band that takes no prisoners in their quest for extreme music.
