Album Review – Dichotomy / Lucifer Owns The Fence (2026)

This American death dealer strikes again with a new solo project, overflowing with rampant Death Metal riffs, firmly anchored to the roots of the genre but hitting with a powerful contemporary impact.

The multi-talented Jordan “HeavenHammer” Varela knows Death Metal. The essence of it runs through his veins. He’s the drummer for the crushing Lust of Decay, the multi-instrumentalist behind the ferocious music of Shuriken Cadaveric Entwinement, and a former member of legends of brutality Lividity. Now in 2026 this Charlotte, North Carolina-based death dealer strikes again with his new solo project, the venomous Dichotomy, and its debut offering Lucifer Owns The Fence. Overflowing with rampant Death Metal riffs, firmly anchored to the roots of the genre but hitting with a powerful contemporary impact, the album is a must-listen for fans of Hate Eternal, Deicide, Immolation, and Cannibal Corpse, among others, resulting in one of the most formidable and accomplished albums of Jordan’s career.

A demented guttural scream kicks off Jordan’s insane journey in He Is…, presenting no shenanigans, no artificial elements, just pure Death Metal madness flowing from his vocals, riffs and drums, and his relentless drumming is boosted by his metallic bass in The Antithesis, another bestial display of Death Metal by Jordan, followed by What A God, where he continues to blend old school sounds with a modern twist. Moreover, his guitar and bass work sounds amazing as usual, not to mention his drumming is demonic as expected. Jordan’s deep guttural will haunt your frail souls in The Fence, again presenting his trademark brutality for our total delight; while Better To Be Drowned With A Millstone Around The Neck carries an amazing title for a Death Metal song, and Jordan makes sure the music is just as harsh as those venomous words.

There’s no sign of Jordan slowing down or selling out at all in The Perseverance; quite the contrary, he keeps firing inhumane growls, Stygian riffs and demolishing beats and fills until the very last second. In The Greatest Lie Ever Told nobody but Jordan himself is sure which lie he’s talking about (as there are so many), but the Death Metal coming from his riffage and gruesome vocals will surely inspire you to slam into the pit even if you don’t like Death Metal. Through Christ We Live offers our putrid ears less than three minutes of pure savagery by Jordan, not recommended for the faint at heart, pounding our cranial skulls with his trademark beats and fills, until we face Satan Will Kill You, but let’s say Death Metal will save you, where his metallic bass and nonstop drums combo sounds like a sonic earthquake, ending the album on the most demented note imaginable.

Every note, every beat, every excoriating roar found in the nine tracks of unequivocal Death Metal on Lucifer Owns The Fence is the work of Jordan Varela, and if you want to show such a hardworking, talented and passionate metaller your support and admiration, you can find him and his Dichotomy on Facebook, and of course purchase a copy of his breathtaking new offering from the project’s own BandCamp, as well as from Rottweiler Records. In other words, be prepared for a monumental Death Metal assault to the sound of the fulminating Lucifer Owns The Fence, opening up the pit for a high dosage of violence and, therefore, fueling the unstoppable Jordan Varela to deliver another blast of Death Metal under Dichotomy in a not-so-distant future. It’s always amazing to witness one single person being responsible for an undisputed, demented high level of aggression and noise, and if there’s one thing Jordan has mastered doing, that is certainly delivering us all that and more in his solid career.

Album Review – The Final Witness / Beneath The Altar (2025)

Behold the debut album by this Phoenix, Arizona-based Progressive Thrash/Death Metal one-man act, progressing with intense aggression, passages of amazing, atmospheric, melodious reflection and a staggering array of riffs.

Solo projects are not the rare entity that they once were in the multitude of metal genres, and an album can simply pass us by as just another barely noted scrap of information. However, when the songs are so individual, complex and emotionally charged it can still take your breath away. That’s exactly the case with The Final Witness, the debut album by Phoenix, Arizona-based Progressive Thrash/Death Metal act The Final Witness, the brainchild of vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Josh Henderson. Produced by Jason Wisdom of Becoming The Archetype, Beneath The Altar offers no gradual immersion into its turbulent waters, no gradual revealing of its unpredictable nature, progressing with intense aggression, incredible guitar solos, passages of amazing, atmospheric, melodious reflection and a staggering array of riffs.

Josh’s incendiary riffs set fire to the atmosphere in Principalities, also presenting crushing beats and fills, and his trademark demonic roars, resulting in a great start to the album, followed by Coronation, even more melodic than the opening track, with Josh shredding his axe in the name of Progressive Death Metal. The title-track Beneath The Altar also brings to our avid ears Josh’s share of aggressiveness mixed with pure melody and intricacy, not to mention his work on the guitars and drums is fantastic; and he keeps roaring and barking nonstop in Sanctum of the Holy, offering more of his Progressive Death Metal blend, with his scorching riffs adding intricacy and rage to the music. Our lone wolf then puts the pedal to the metal in the infuriated Negative World, offering a high dosage of Death and Thrash Metal violence armed with his blast beats and visceral growling. Testimony, the second to last song from the album, is a burst of pure energy, keeping the fun inside the pit flowing until we face The Blood, another complex and long composition presenting his piercing riffage and progressive beats and fills, resulting in a multi-layered tune recommended for fans of the genre.

Album Review – King’s Hammer / To Speak In Tongues EP (2025)

Prepare to be crushed when the hammer of Death Metal by this one-man project from Richmond, Virginia falls to the sound of its debut EP.

To Speak in Tongues, the debut EP from King’s Hammer, the savage Death Metal solo project by Richmond, Virginia’s own Chuck Weatherman (the guitarist and vocalist of thrashers Shovelhead A.D.) is an outpouring of the accomplished frontman’s hardest and heaviest musical inclinations. Mixed by Chuck Weatherman himself, and mastered by Seth Metoyer (of Mangled Carpenter and Pulpit Vomit), To Speak In Tongues delivers riff upon riff upon riff, making for remorseless, relentless, yet atmospheric listening, being highly recommended for fans of Mortification, Dyscarnate, Pantera, and Grave, among others. Put differently, when Chuck Weatherman’s hammer of Death Metal falls, prepare to be crushed.

It’s pedal to the metal from the very first second in The War in Heaven, where Chuck hammers his bass and drums while also vociferating deeply like a dark creature, kicking off the album on a high note. The hellish Vehement Zeal showcases very poetic lyrics declaimed by Chuck (“Loneliness is my bride / Without it then I would die / I came from nothing / to nothing I’ll return / Another body made savage / And a soul be one with He”) while the music sounds heavy, fast and visceral just the way we like it in Death Metal, and Chuck goes absolutely heavy on bass in Wrath Decends, also delivering groove and rage through his growls and thunderous riffs and drums. Then we have Crusade IX, offering a heavy-as-hell blend of 90’s Death Metal in the vein of Unleashed, with his deep roars sounding menacing; whereas last but not least, Chuck ends the EP with the grim and technical Witches Bvrn, blasting his drums and slashing his axe in great fashion until the very end.

From old school Death Metal attack and brutal grooves to the shuddering juggernaut of darkness that is the concluding track of the EP, King’s Hammer takes no prisoners. To Speak In Tongues has all the grit and raw venom that Death Metal needs to deliver the maximum impact, and you should definitely face that sonic attack by following the multi-talented Chuck Weatherman and his King’s Hammer on Instagram, by streaming his devastating creations on Spotify or any other streaming service available, and above all that, by purchasing a copy of To Speak In Tongues from the project’s own BandCamp, or from the Broken Curfew Records’ BandCamp. It’s time to let the hammer fall, as already mentioned, and while Mr. Chuck Weatherman crushes our putrid bodies with his riff-infused blend of heaviness, we can rest assured this is just the beginning for such a promising project hailing from the United States.
