Album Review – Disembodiment / Spiral Crypts (2025)

This Canadian Death Metal quartet is finally storming back into the scene with their debut full album, digging you deep into the most gruesome slasher experience your deviated mind has ever experienced.

Sherbrooke, Quebec’s own Death Metal quartet Disembodiment is finally storming back into the most rancid and filthiest Death Metal scene with their debut full album Spiral Crypts, four years after their acclaimed EP Mutated Chaos, and it was definitely worth the wait. Recorded at the band’s own rehearsal space (vocals and guitars) and at Studio C (bass, drums and additional guitar tracks), mixed by the band’s own guitarist Christian, mastered by Carlo Altobelli at Toxic Basement, with a gory, sinister cover art by Slimeweaver (with additional artworks by draught__, and logo by the band’s drummer Eric), Spiral Crypts digs you deep into the worst and most gruesome slasher experience your deviated mind has ever experienced, all carefully brought into being by all four members of Canadian Death Metal band Oath Div. 666, those being Mathieu on vocals, Christian on the guitars, Carl on bass, and Eric on drums.

Like the soundtrack to a gory horror movie, the band will spread their metallic virus in Morbid Infestation, with Mathieu vomiting the song’s demented words accompanied by the caustic Death Metal riffs by Christian, followed by Stygian Overture, offering us all classic and gruesome Death Metal spearheaded by Eric’s unrelenting beats and fills, also presenting hints of Doom Metal to make things even more obscure. The title-track Spiral Crypts brings to our avid ears another round of heavy and visceral sounds by the band, with Christian’s riffage sounding truly vile; and Disembodiment then blasts a shorter Death Metal tune titled Putrification, with its three minutes bringing forward absolutely intense, unstoppable and thrilling violence.

Then a beyond cryptic, disturbing start gradually evolves into a massive wall of Death Metal thunder in Larval, slower than its predecessors yet just as pulverizing and grim, with Eric smashing his drums supported by Carl’s Stygian bass. Mathieu takes the lead once again with his deranged guttural in Infected To Rot, again delivering sheer insanity, with the low-tuned bass by Carl sending shivers down our spines; followed by Unknown Origins, two minutes of obscure, demonic sounds brought into being by those Canadian death metallers, before Sentient Inorganic Mess ends the album on a high note with the vile growls by Mathieu matching perfectly with Christian’s ruthless riffage.

Album Review – Golem Of Gore / Ultimo Mondo Cane (2025)

Emerging from the boiling bowels of horrendous vomit and uncompromising gore, this unrelenting Italian Goregrind brigade will attack armed with their filthy sophomore album.

Emerging from the boiling bowels of horrendous vomit and uncompromising gore, the unrelenting Italian Goregrind brigade Golem Of Gore is finally back with their most faceted, dramatic yet filthier work, entitled Ultimo Mondo Cane, or “last dog world” in English, a monstrous battle hymn for all the gore freaks out there. Recorded by Marco Carboni, mixed and mastered by Davide Guerri (with vinyl mastered by Carlo Altobelli at Toxic Basement Studio), and displaying a sick artwork by James Wilson with collage art by Adam Medford, the sophomore album by vocalist Riki, guitarist Marco, bassist Bonne, and drummer Dave is an overdose of savagery and blast beats, proving only gore is real and, of course, being recommended for admirers of the music by Last Days Of Humanity, Regurgitate, Pissgrave, and Caustic Wound, among several others bringers of gore worldwide.

The album starts with the cryptic, devilish movie-like intro Cruelty Abounds On This Planet, opening the gates of horror and gore and, therefore, letting Golem of Gore invade our world and kill us all in The Fragrance Of Pus – Filled Eyes of the Dead, with Riki’s demented, deep guttural sounding absolutely bestial. In Regurgitated Entrails With Intense Mortification the name of the song says it all, offering an overdose of savagery led by the insane drums by Dave; whereas guest Gabri from Terror Firmer delivers screaming devastation in Withdrawal Crisis – Through the Keyhole of Madness, elevating its gore and insanity considerably. The visceral riffs by Marco will slash your entrails in In The Cold Room Of My Restaurant, You Are Dog Food, while in L’isola maledetta – Immersed In A Formaldehyde Coffin all members of Slug Gore (those being Amianto, Fuoco and Sbocco) unite for total gore and devastation. The Slasher in Black Latex – Acrid Aroma In Tenebris is the perfect depiction of the band’s infuriated blend of Grindcore, whereas A Prayer From The Filthy Creatures Of The Deep presents one and a half minute of brutal slamming led by the demented drumming by Dave, which is also the case in Buried in Feces – Ultimo Mondo Cane.

Then we face the spine-chilling interlude La Montagna della Dea Cannibale before guest Tom from Haggus spews filth in Chronic Obstructive Caustic Vomit, a ruthless, wild display of Goregrind perfect for slamming into the pit like a true metalmaniac. Fucked By The Shovel, Thrown Into Violent Screams is another song with a charming name displaying the always gruesome roars by Riki, followed by Methamphetamine – Drenched In Piss And Gore, another minute of pure Grindcore with their riffs and blast beats sounding inhumane. The two part song formed of Through The Gates of Hell – Una tomba aperta and Back From The Gates of Hell – Una bara vuota showcases a band that only knows the language of gore; followed by The Final Feast of the Damned – Tre Passi nel delirio, with Marco and Bonne destroying their stringed axes. Cannibal Banquet for the Lord of Flies – Maggots Throne is an ode to the most putrid and horrid Italian horror movies, offering excellence in pure gore and heaviness, before all comes to an end with Senza Uscita – Worse Than Reality, a virulent, putrid outro that will haunt your damned souls for all eternity.

Album Review – Pneuma Hagion / From Beyond (2024)

This auditory Texan Black and Death Metal onslaught returns with their new and brutal album, exploring Lovecraftian ideas of horrifying extra-dimensional entities forcing their way into the causal universe by infecting the minds of humans.

The auditory Black and Death Metal onslaught hailing from Texas and known as Pneuma Hagion, which is Greek for “Holy Spirit”, is about to unleash upon humanity their third full-length album, titled From Beyond, a relentless barrage of down tuned brutality that will resonate deep with the darkest chords of your soul. Mixed and mastered by Mike G, with the vinyl master being taken care of by Carlo Altobelli at Toxic Basement Studios, and displaying a stylish cover art by English poet, painter, and printmaker William Blake (1757-1827), the new album by the monstrous duo R. on vocals, guitars and bass, and S. on drums explores Lovecraftian ideas of horrifying extra-dimensional entities forcing their way into the causal universe by infecting the minds of humans. Each song is from the perspective of some malevolent entity of unfathomable nature trying to influence the world of mortals and trying to infiltrate our universe in order to cause its ultimate destruction.

The opener Harbinger Of Dissolution sounds groovy and infernal from the very first notes, with R. delivering an overdose of aggression through his riffs and vocals supported by the classic blast beats by S., while Resurrected Abominations is a lesson in old school, primeval Death Metal by the duo, with their Cannibal Corpse-inspired riffs and beats turning it into the perfect soundtrack for some sick mosh pit action. Lurking Beyond Time And Space offers another two and a half minutes of sheer animosity and heaviness led by the cadaverous roars by R., who also hammers his guitar and bass mercilessly nonstop; and the duo keeps haunting our damned souls in Those Who Obey, a Death Metal onrush tailored for fans of the genre showcasing a brutal and evil performance by S. on drums. It’s then time to break our necks headbanging to the caustic riffs by R. in The Temple Fires, bringing forward a beyond heavy sound boosted by the deep guttural by R., exploding into sheer madness halfway through it.

Then investing in a much more demented and visceral sonority the duo will pierce our cranial skulls with Aeon, a thunderous tune overflowing groove with the infernal drums by S. providing R. with exactly what he needs to bark and growl like a beast, and there’s no time to breathe in The Light of Long-Dead Stars, another pulverizing aria of classic Death Metal spearheaded by the hellish roars and caustic riffs by R. There are two more demonic chants to go, starting with All Worlds Enslaved, where the duo once again destroys our frail bodies with their dense and fierce sounds, with S. sounding inhumane on drums as usual, therefore adding even more violence to their music. Finally, get ready to be smashed like a putrid insect in the closing tune Archon, offering their characteristic aggression led by the demented drums by S. while R. continues to vociferate in the name of extreme music.

In a nutshell, From Beyond is thick, raw, crushing and unfiltered aggression made in Texas, and Pneuma Hagion are definitely waiting for you on Facebook to join them in their malevolent realm of Death Metal. Album Review – Goratory / Sour Grapes (2020)

A ruthless Death Metal entity is back from its putrid grave with a brand new album after 16 years to spread their filthy and immoral music to all four corners of the earth.

After sixteen years of absolute silence, Boston, Massachusetts-based sickest perverts Goratory are finally back with a brand album of degenerating, grinding and schizoid Technical and Brutal Death Metal entitled Sour Grapes, reigniting their path of devastation initiated with their 2000 demo Wrestling with Feces and that was interrupted in 2004 with their third full-length opus Rice on Suede. Mixed and mastered by the band’s own drummer Darren Cesca at House of Grind Studios, with the vinyl mastering being handled by Carlo Altobelli at Toxic Basement Studios, and displaying a psychedelic artwork by Tony Koehl, Sour Grapes is tailored for admirers of the gory and depraved death blasted by Malignancy, Cryptopsy, Gorgasm and Pillory, among others, showing why lead singer Adam Mason, guitarist Alan Glassman, bassist Zachary Pappas and the aforementioned Darren Cesca decided to come back from their putrid grave after so many years to spread their filthy and immoral music to all four corners of the earth once again.

Get ready to be bombarded with blood and feces by this evil horde of extreme music in Rat King, undoubtedly a bestial, sick and depraved display of Brutal Death Metal perfect for kicking off the album, with Darren being infernal on drums while Adam barks and vomits the song’s wicked words manically.  Then demented vociferations and endless insanity will haunt your souls in Losing Streak, an ode to gory and grim Death Metal where Alan shreds his axe with tons of violence accompanied by the fretting bass punches by Zachary, and there’s  no sign of the band slowing down or making things lighter in I Shit Your Pants; quite the contrary, it’s another feast of heavy-as-hell riffs and beats, showcasing the band’s dynamism, refined technique and passion for sheer brutality, followed by Bottom Feeder, where Goratory will smash your head to pieces to the sound of the unstoppable blast beats by Darren and the metallic bass by Zachary. Moreover, what the hell are those lyrics (“I recall it all in flashes. / What was left unconsumed is now ashes. / Power turned to powder. / Rice on my Suede socks? Chop you into pieces and puree you into sauce.”)?

Adam keeps growling and snarling like a rabid creature while his bandmates exhale aggression and progressiveness through their vicious instruments in Evolutionary Wart, displaying a great fusion of Technical and Brutal Death Metal, and you might not believe this but Goratory managed to sound even more violent and thunderous in The People’s Temple, highly recommended for fans of both Death Metal and Grindcore, with Zachary being on fire with his Alex Webster-inspired bass lines. The quartet then offers their personal tribute to Seth Edward Putnam (1968 – 2011),  the founder, vocalist and occasional guitarist of American Grindcore act Anal Cunt, titled Seth Putnam Was A Sensitive Man, bringing forward distinguished lyrics (“Fuck you cause you’re dead, / Now you’re giving Satan head. / Force fed demon splooge, / Loads of jizz inside of you, / Bukkake in a Putnam stew.”) amidst a sonic demolition that would put a huge and sick smile on Seth’s face. And lastly we have Back To The Grinding Machine, originally released as “Into The Grinding Machine” on their 2001 album Sexual Intercorpse, with the 2020 version maintaining the core malignancy, depravity and fury from the original one, with Alan and Darren making a venomous duo with their pulverizing riffs and beats.
